When I purchased my Beagle it came from the US (mouser) and was
subject to US export restrictions so it took a lot longer to
materialise than was necessary. Sit! Good dog. Now beg! Good dog. Now
sign here!
Does anyone know why?
More importantly, if I want to avoid this in future, from where should
I purchase Beagleboads.
may be from local distributor? I’m in Russia and your story sounds childish because you don’t know what means “Russian custom” :). They will empty your pocket in a moment because the import is not supported by the Government. You can pay 2 or even 3 times more that the actual price.
The processor on the Beagle has the HIGHEST level of export rating there is and is subject to certain export restrictions. This means it cannot be sold to governments or for military use. As long as you are not a government and you are not making military equipment, then you should have no issue getting the board. This is not new.
Hi, everybody
SBC3530 from EMA support the latest TI Platform Software Packages (PSP) and
DVSDK libraries, support for 720P HD video decode, support for dual video
output, and support OGRE game engine.
for more detailed information, you can visit the following websites: http://www.ema-tech.com/products/Eproducts_details.aspx?Ename=SBC3530
I got the Omap 3530 board called DEV3530. It is running at the 600
Mhz. I have configured my beagle board at 600 Mhz but I am seeing
drastical performance difference between beagle and Dev3530. Beagle is
giving very good performance almost 35% faster.
Both having Omap 3530 than why this is happening any idea?
I am using kernel with almost same config. Both I am enabling L1 and
L2 cache.
Am I missing something? Kindly let me know.
DigiKey ships all over the world. If you are from a country on the restricted list, then there are additional steps you must take in order to have a board shipped to you. In some cases, this requires a phone call to DigiKey when placing an order. As DigiKey is responsible for compliance to the US restrictions, it is up to you to convince them that you comply with the law and can receive a board. In some cases, this may not be possible based on their perception of the purchaser. It is not worth them risking their business for a single purchase. If you do not pas sth etest, then you won’t be sold aboard.
This same restriction applies to all authorized Beagle distributors. If any distributor fails to comply with these restrictions, they will no longer be a Beagle distributor. Having said all this, I am not aware of anyone that has been turned down on a Beagle purchase, but I am sure that it has happened…
Thank you for clarification. Are you talking about U.S. restricted
list of
countries? Like North Korea and like? Then it should be ok, because
I'm not from any of these countries. And if there is another list,
then
I couldn't find this information on the DigiKey site.
Having said that, I'm not against this at all, but there are no
information
whatsoever on their website about how to proceed in that case. Their
online order form just doesn't allow to add beagleboard to order list
and
I don't know what to do next. Am I supposed to call their sales
department
for clarification? Just want to be sure. It's a bit disappointing as I
didn't
expected such difficulties. Anyone could just go in any shop here and
purchase a smartphone or netbook with similar hardware without any
trouble.
Yes, US restricted countries. If you are having issues, the best thig to do is just give them a call. Or you can try one of the other distributrs as well.
Thanks, I'll try to contact them by e-mail as international calls are
quite expensive.
The other distributors are out of the question, I'm afraid. I'm trying
to order an xM
model which is distributed by DigiKey only.
Oh. OK. Well, DigiKey has none in stock yet, but a few of the other distributors will be getting -xM boards as well. DigiKey should be taking orders on the -xM, but I am not sure how that process works.
Mouser has them listed as preorder as well, you might want to try there
On DigiKey, after the order is placed they will contact you with a series of questions about your project and otheres, as in our case they asked why is that our website doesn’t shows our project where the beagle will be used, aparently they never knew about intenal prototypes and hobby projects
Special Computing is also taking xM pre-orders along with custom
acrylic case and accessories. Our xM expansion boards and display
configurations are being designed now.
We screen all international orders for US export restrictions and
comply with EEI shipping requirements. Its not all that complicated,
since Special Computing is already setup to serve our international
customers for value-add special projects.
I am in Sydney Australia and want to order a Beagleboard XM but when I go to your order page it requires a credit card to pre-order with an unkown ETA.
I have a couple of questions:
1) Will there be any export problems shipping a beagleboard xm to Sydney Australia?
2) What information do you require, send it if it is easy.
3) On the Beagleboard email lists it has been said that PCBs are shipping to distributors at end of month..
I don't want to order if ETA is totally unknown or 6 months away.
4) What shipping options do you have for me and cost and travel times.
Ideally I would like to order a board now in the knowledge it was shipping early next month
I ordered Beagleboard from Digi-key. The delivery address was to a
private company. I had to send confirmation to Digi-key that the end
product containing Beagleboard will not be used to military,
surveillance or government use and that was it. I guess that this step
is not needed, if you are ordering BB as a private person.
I live in Finland, but I guess that the same applies to Australia, since
the confirmation was part of US regulations.
I can't comment on the xm, but when I got a rev C4 earlier this year
from a US distributor it was a matter of filling and signing a form
indicating what use the device would be put to.
I'm in Melbourne.
In my case they (Mouser) accepted a scan of a signed form. YMMV.
We are waiting for what is called a CCAT number from the US government. Once we receive this number, the distributors can then take orders for the -xM board. We do not control the US government and therefore cannot guarantee when the CCAT number will be assigned. We expect it to be in the next couple of weeks.
Once this is taken care of, the -xM can be shipped every place the Rev C4 is currently being shipped. This does include Australia.
Shipments of the finished product, not the PCB, will start the end of this month. Not 6 months from now. Whether or not any particular individual can get there board in a specific amount of time, depends entirely on the distributor and their backlog.
The shipping details, cost and time, depends on what you pay for and is determined and handled by the purchaser and the individual distributors.
And here you are wrong. I'm a private person but still got this
BIS-711 form to fill. My guess is that this is a universal rule for
any entity be it a person or a company. And this is unfortunate
because it is not very clear for me how to fill this form for a
private person (if you look at it you will know what I mean). Let's
hope they are reasonable people who understand that
If you are located in a country that is on the restricted list, then you will be subject to the restrictions and will need to convince the distributor that you will not use the board for military or government use. This is a US and EU restriction that each distributor must follow and applies to thousands of products. If the distributor does not follow these rules there could be major legal ramifications, such as no longer being in business. It is the responsiabilty of each purcahser to fill ou tth epaperwork in order to have a board sold to them. This is nothing new and has been arouind for a very long time and I do not expect it to go away. This is what we have had to deal with on the Rev C4 Beagles and is not new fo rthe -xM version. Both boards have the same level of restriction.
