Free software is software you can use, share, modify and redistribute. Can you install an entirely free software gnu linux system on the beaglebone black? Will graphics work?
Thank you.
Technically all images are blob free on am335x as we don’t have usable sgx 3d graphic acceleration on mainline. Then someone will argue, well you have this xyz driver compiled into the kernel.
And just remember it’s 1 ghz single core with 512mb of ram, all useable desktops have moved on. In most cases as a generic desktop for end users, it’s not really usable on the use case of I want to surf the web.
Regards,
But using only free software the beaglebone black still is able to support basic graphics? For instance call a simple website?
All graphics 2D on am335x is cpu rendered by default. The sgx 3D accelerator, which is unusable, accelerated only 3D calls.
As a desktop to surf the web, you will not be happy. That’s NOT the use case of the am335x.
am335x accels at toggling i/o really fast in industrial io environments.
A usable client desktop it does not.
If you want a web desktop client, get any x86 with 4 or more cores off eBay
I had a particular beaglebone black user case in mind. I made a new post on the matter.
